The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) celebrated the birthday of its late Founder President, Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, paying tribute to his enduring contribution to education and his vision for the institution The ceremony brought together IoBM’s leadership, Mr. Talib Syed Karim, President; Ms. Sabina Mohsin, VP FHE and Chief Advisor; Prof. Dr. Tariq Rahim Soomro, Rector; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kashif, Dean CBM; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abbas, Dean CCSIS; Dr. Nadia Ayub, Dean CESD, along with Heads of Departments, Faculty Members, Management. The programme was hosted by Dr. Shagufta Ghauri, Associate Dean, College of Business Management (CBM).
Speakers at the event were IoBM’s Mr. Aslam Ali, Senior Manager Finance; Dr. Mirza Aqeel Baig, Head of the Department of Economics; Mr. Imdad Ali Mugheri, Manager IQAE/QEC; and Mr. Adeel Hashmi, Head of Alumni Relations Office and IoBM alumnus, BBA-1999. Sharing their personal interactions and memories, the speakers highlighted Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim’s determination, vision and lifelong commitment to the cause of education.
Speaking on the occasion, President IoBM Mr. Talib Karim recalled that the late Founder President had visited the campus only a month before his passing to attend the inauguration of the Shahjehan Syed Karim Center of Excellence (SSKCE) building. He reflected on the challenge of carrying forward the vision and legacy of his father, saying that IoBM is continuing to work towards fulfilling the dreams he had envisioned for the institution. Mr. Talib Karim appreciated the efforts of the faculty, Heads of Departments and the wider IoBM community in sustaining the legacy of the late Founder President. He expressed hope that the institution would continue to build on his vision and achievements. He also announced that a book chronicling the life of the late Founder President is in its final stages and is expected to be revealed in the second week of October. The book has been authored by Ejaz Wasay, with the writing process having commenced during the lifetime of Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim.
Ms. Sabina Mohsin, Vice President FHE and Chief Advisor IoBM, also paid tribute to the late Founder President, reflecting on his life, values and legacy. She noted that having his final resting place on the IoBM campus was in accordance with his wishes and described it as a matter of pride for the Karim family. She also highlighted the conferment of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz upon him as a significant honour. Recalling the ideals associated with his life and achievements, she referred to Allama Iqbal’s famous verse, “Khudi ko kar buland itna, ke har taqdeer se pehle, Khuda bande se khud pooche, bata teri raza kya hai”, underscoring the values of aspiration, self-belief and perseverance.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony held in honour of the Late Founder President, Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim. Colleagues whose birthdays fell between June and September also joined the celebration and participated in the cake-cutting ceremony, adding to the spirit of togetherness and camaraderie.
