Course Detail

The PhD in Mathematics program is designed to provide advanced training in both theoretical and applied aspects of mathematics, preparing scholars to
contribute to research, innovation, and evidence-based problem solving across academia, industry, and government. The Department has a diverse faculty
with expertise spanning pure and applied mathematics, offering students a wide range of specialized subjects and research areas to choose from according to their
academic interests and career goals. The program aims to develop researchers capable of advancing mathematical theory, formulating innovative models and
methods, and conducting high-quality scientific investigations to address contemporary challenges. While individual researchers may pursue different areas
of specialization, the program emphasizes rigorous coursework and excellence in research, encouraging publications in reputable international conferences and
HEC-recognized journals. The coursework and research requirements are structured in accordance with HEC criteria to ensure the highest academic standards.

PhD requires the completion of coursework and a dissertation/thesis. In addition, each PhD scholar shall be required to publish at least one research paper based on the dissertation as a first author along with his/her supervisor/co-supervisor in a Clarivate Analytics Impact Factor Journal listed in Journal Citation Reports (Web of Science Group). The minimum duration is three years and the maximum are eight years. For further requirements, refer to PhD Policy Manual available at https://basr.iobm.edu.pk/ms-mphil-and-phd-policy-and-thesis/

  • Comprehensive examination.
  • PhD proposal/synopsis development.
  • PhD proposal/synopsis defense.
  • BASR approval of the PhD proposal/synopsis.
  • Continuous enrollment in supervised research courses to meet full-time residency requirements.
  • Completion of the PhD dissertation/thesis.
  • Selection of external evaluators by BASR.
  • Publication or official acceptance of at least one paper in an ISI impact factor journal as a first author.
  • Evaluation of the PhD dissertation by two foreign faculty members from developed countries, as per HEC criteria.
  • Dissertation/thesis finalization.
  • Open defense of the PhD dissertation.
  • Fulfillment of any other HEC requirement.
  • Final dissertation/thesis submission to BASR.
