Dr. Hassam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), was awarded the prestigious IMU-Simons Fellowship by the International Mathematical Union (IMU). The fellowship supported a three-month research visit to the Department of Mathematics at Keele University, United Kingdom, from November 3, 2025, to February 2, 2026.
During his visit, Dr. Hassam collaborated with Professor Fu on advanced research in the fields of continuum mechanics and mathematical modelling. Their joint work focused on the analysis of surface waves in linear elastic microstretch materials, resulting in new findings related to the existence and uniqueness of solutions to these wave propagation problems.
In addition to his research activities, Dr. Hassam actively engaged with the academic community at Keele University. He interacted with Master’s students, exchanging ideas and discussing contemporary developments in applied mathematics. He also delivered a research seminar within the Department of Mathematics, presenting his work and contributing to international academic dialogue and collaboration.
The fellowship provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen research ties between IoBM and Keele University, promote scholarly exchange, and contribute to the advancement of mathematical sciences through international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
