
The Marketing and Communications (MARCOM) Department at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) recently organized a panel discussion to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, bringing together leading media professionals to examine the evolving landscape of journalism in Pakistan.
The session titled “The Future of News”, featured prominent figures from the media industry: Khawaja Burhan Uddin, News Editor at Geo Digital (English); Afreen Mirza, News Editor – Strategy at IMM (Geo / The News); Dua Shakil Paracha, Reporter at 24 News; and Amber Shamsi, Pakistan Editor at Nukta, who also delivered the keynote address.
The session aimed to foster meaningful dialogue on the future of journalism in Pakistan, focusing on both the challenges and emerging opportunities within the field. Panelists discussed the transition from traditional newsroom practices to increasingly digital and algorithm-driven storytelling, highlighting how technology continues to reshape news production and consumption.
A key theme of the discussion was the growing concern around the credibility of information in an era dominated by rapid content dissemination and social media influence. Speakers emphasized the need for ethical journalism, media literacy, and adaptability as the industry navigates this transformation.
