Book exploring entrepreneurship and social cohesion launched at IoBM

The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) hosted the launch of Socioeconomic Sustainability Through Moral and Social Capital, authored by Dr. Omar Javaid, Associate Professor in the Entrepreneurship Department at the College of Business Management (CBM), IoBM. The event was held on Saturday, April 26, 2026.

The book explores how entrepreneurial communities in Pakistan and beyond sustain social cohesion amid changing economic conditions. Speakers at the event noted that it serves as a valuable resource for students, researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners interested in community-driven approaches to sustainable social and economic development. The event was hosted by Dr. Bazla Mukhtar, Assistant Professor, Entrepreneurship Department, CBM. Proceedings began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Humayun Baig.

The ceremony was attended by IoBM’s senior management, including Mr. Talib S. Karim, President, Dr. Shagufta Ghauri, Acting Associate Dean Undergraduate Programs & HoD Management & HR Department, CBM; Dr. Junaid Ansari, HoD Entrepreneurship Department, CBM, along with faculty, management and students.

In his welcome address, Mr. Talib S. Karim highlighted IoBM’s commitment to promoting academic scholarship and supporting faculty research. He appreciated the author’s efforts and noted that the book offers meaningful insights into entrepreneurial communities, particularly the role of moral and social capital in achieving success.

Dr. Irfan Hyder, Vice Chancellor, Salim Habib University, reflected on supervising Dr. Javaid’s research, which later evolved into the book. He commended the originality of the idea and the author’s perseverance, adding that the work provides valuable perspectives for aspiring entrepreneurs and a deeper understanding of local entrepreneurial dynamics.

Maulana Bashir Farooq Qadri, Founder and Chairman of Saylani Welfare International Trust, reflected on the historical roots of the Memon community and the evolution of its entrepreneurial spirit. Mr. Afzal Chamadia, President of Chamadia Group, highlighted the role of IT parks in nurturing future entrepreneurs and encouraged young individuals to take calculated risks.

Dr. Abdul Wahab Suri, Head of the Philosophy Department at the University of Karachi, observed that the book critically examines three communities by analyzing their internal dynamics and linking them to contemporary academic discourse. He appreciated how the work transforms lived experiences into a structured scholarly contribution grounded in academic literature.

Prof. Aamir Firoz Shamsi (Bahria University) highlighted the author’s strong grounding in academic literature and logical reasoning, noting that the book presents entrepreneurship as both a pathway to success and a means of social responsibility and long-term societal well-being.

Dr. Omar Javaid thanked Dr. Irfan Hyder and Prof. Aamir Firoz Shamsi for their guidance and shared insights from his research journey, describing his study of the three communities as a deeply enlightening experience. He also spoke about the writing process and the rigorous journey of having the thesis reviewed, rejected and revised, emphasizing the persistence and meticulous effort required to bring the work to completion.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Junaid Ansari described the work as encouraging and acknowledged IoBM’s support in publishing it.
