IoBM’s GBR Department Hosts Guest Session on Research Paradigms for Faculty and PhD Scholars

The Graduate Business Research (GBR) Department at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) organized a guest speaker session titled “Important Philosophical Paradigms in Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods” on April 18, 2026, at the IoBM main campus.

The session was conducted by Dr. Irfan Muhammad, a distinguished academic and researcher, invited for his expertise in research philosophy and methodology. The event was attended by IoBM faculty members, MS students, and PhD scholars, all of whom gained valuable insights into the foundational paradigms that underpin qualitative and quantitative research.

Dr. Muhammad delivered an engaging and interactive presentation covering key philosophical perspectives, including:

• Positivism and Post-Positivism
• Interpretivism and Constructivism
• Critical Theory and Pragmatism
• Application of Paradigms in Research Design and Methodology

The session provided participants with a deeper understanding of how research philosophies shape the choice of methods, data collection, and analysis in academic research. Practical implications for doctoral and post-graduate research were also explored, equipping attendees with the conceptual tools necessary to strengthen their own scholarly work.

This initiative aligns with IoBM’s commitment to fostering a robust research culture and enhancing the academic capabilities of its faculty and research students, as outlined in the IoBM Academic Excellence Framework (IAEF). The GBR Department regularly organizes such sessions to promote intellectual discourse, support research capacity building, and contribute to the Institute’s mission of academic excellence and innovation. Participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to engage with a leading expert in the field of research methodology and commended the GBR Department for organizing the highly informative session.
