Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim, the late Founder President of the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), was a visionary educationist, accomplished civil servant, and inspiring mentor whose life reflected struggle, excellence, and dedication.
He graduated from the University of Arizona, USA, pursued studies in Public Administration at Cambridge University, UK, and Transportation Management at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and became a Fellow of the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank.
His distinguished career began in 1957 when he joined the Higher Civil Service of Pakistan. Over the years, he served in several senior positions, including Chief Secretary to the Government of Sindh. Following his retirement from government service, Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim set his sights on a new mission: establishing an institution that would serve Pakistan through education.
In 1995, guided by his belief that education is a beacon of service, he founded the Institute of Business Management (IoBM). What began as an ambitious vision soon grew into one of Pakistan’s premier institutions of higher learning, built upon the pillars of academic excellence, research, societal impact, and digital transformation. Under his leadership, IoBM developed a robust infrastructure, a sustainable endowment, and comprehensive financial assistance programs to ensure access to education regardless of financial background.
Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim’s philosophy was rooted in integrity, mentorship, and empowerment. He did not simply establish a university; he created a lasting philosophy of education grounded in service and long-term sustainability. His foresight ensured that IoBM’s foundations would remain strong for decades to come.
Remembered as a mentor, friend, and leader, Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim inspired colleagues, students, and alumni with his wisdom, humility, and guidance. Today, his legacy continues to thrive at IoBM, shaping its vision, philosophy, and strategic direction. Through his vision, dedication, and integrity, Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim built more than an institution—he created a philosophy and a legacy that continue to illuminate the path of education in Pakistan.
