Sarmad brings to academia a diversified and rich experience of over 25 years. He has served in both commercial and nonprofit international organizations in Pakistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Malaysia. Working as CFO in an international university in Bangladesh he managed an annual budget of US$8 million for four years. He served in IUCN for 13 years where he held positions including Director Finance – Pakistan and Regional Finance Coordinator - Thailand, which required managing large cross-functional teams spread across multiple countries and projects. Prior to that, he had served in the Finance department of a large manufacturing company in Pakistan.
Since 2018, Sarmad has been employed as Assistant Professor in the Accounting & Finance department at IoBM where he teaches high-level finance courses. At IoBM, he has taken lead in designing and introducing new courses in Finance at graduate and undergraduate levels. His current research interest is in the qualitative aspects of performance measurement and investment strategies. Furthermore, he volunteers his time in helping the local NGOs for setting up financial monitoring and donor reporting systems.
