Dr. S. M. Aqil Burney holds an MSc (Statistics), MPhil (Risk Theory and Insurance -Statistics) from the University of Karachi (UoK), and Ph.D. (Mathematics) from Strathclyde University with specialization in Statistics, Glasgow-UK along with many courses in Population Studies of UN and Computing. He is currently working as a Senior Professor at the College of Computer Science and Information Systems and heading the Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science & Risk Management Departments, and member of BASR and the Academic Council of IoBM. He has taught for more than 48 years at UoK and other institutions and universities extensively delivering lectures at other institutions and universities of Pakistan and abroad and attached to IoBM since 2013. He also holds extensive experience in academic management and organization as Provost, Registrar, Project Director for Development of Computer Science and Institute of Information technology, and founding Director of Main Communication Network of the University of Karachi. Dr. Aqil Burney was Meritorious Professor at the Department of Computer Science University of Karachi and was the Head of Department thrice in the period 1994 -2013 and founding Director of UBIT University of Karachi and also project Director of UBIT 2002 -2008till completion., prior to joining at IoBM. He has published more than 250 research papers and 7 books nationally and internationally in ICT and 2 books in process, Mathematics, Statistics Computer Science, and actuarial science and initiated the data science discipline at CCSIS-IoBM. He has supervised 20 PhDs and 15 MS/M.Phils in mathematics/Computer Science/Statistics and data science as approved HEC Supervisor. Dr. Aqil Burney has around 2900+ citations on his research work and frequently delivers invited lectures on ICT/CS/ASRM and Data Science and Computational Intelligence & Finance, Machine Learning and Fuzzy Logic and Information Systems. Dr. Aqil Burney is Chairman(elect) National ICT Committee for Standard PSQCA- Ministry of Science & Technology Govt. of Pakistan(2013- Cont.) and a member National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC)(2013-2017), member of CIEC, Govt of Sindh (2004- 2013), Member IEEE(USA), Member ACM(USA) and was Fellow Royal Statistical Society UK) for 30 years or so. He was the editor of Pakistan Journal of Engineering and Technology of IoBM up to Nov.2017; and was the editor of Open Journal of Information Systems (OJIS) (www.ronpub.com/ojis) Germany and presently reviewer of Asian Journal of Probability and Statistics and IEEE CS conferences at UoK. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the University of Sindh Journal of Information and Communication Technology (USJICT) & Journal of Computing and Related Technologies of SMI University Karachi and a reviewer of the journal of Neural Computing And Applications (NCAA) and Journal of Soft Computing, Springer and also for some time of Communication in Statistics of Publisher Johnson and Francis. and many other journals. Presently, two Ph.D. scholars and many MS (CS) /MS (Statistics & SC) MS (Actuarial Science & Computational Finance) are working under his supervision at CCSIS-IoBM. Dr. Aqil Burney is also a member of BoS and Boards of many universities.
