Pinktober Drive at IoBM

On October 23, 2024, the Social Welfare and Awareness Trust (SWAT), a student society at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), organized an inspiring event called the Pinktober Drive to raise breast cancer awareness. Hundreds of participants came out for the event, all donning pink from head to toe, symbolizing solidarity and strength in the battle against breast cancer. The student members of SWAT, under the guidance of their dedicated faculty advisor, Ms. Rabia Sabri, meticulously organized the event, ensuring every detail was thoughtfully addressed.

The Pinktober Drive aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), prioritizing awareness, early detection, and community support for breast cancer survivors. Through various educational sessions, impactful discussions, and engaging activities, the initiative reaffirmed its commitment to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 4: Quality Education.

The event commenced with a Breast Cancer Awareness Session for women, providing valuable information on preventive care and early detection methods. This session contributed to SDG 3 by advocating for more proactive healthcare strategies and empowering participants with the knowledge to manage breast cancer risks, thereby addressing UN global health targets aimed at combating non-communicable diseases.

Following this, the day featured a range of sessions and activities designed to empower participants while fostering a supportive community. Ms. Javeria Baig moderated an impactful panel discussion titled “Fighting Cancer,” where breast cancer survivors shared their stories of endurance and bravery. The esteemed panel included Dr. Salika, a breast cancer survivor with a PhD; Ms. Muneeba Ali, a proud survivor; Mr. Adil Naeem, CEO of Meri Pharmacy; and Dr. Farah, an experienced surgeon in this field. This discussion not only provided unique insights but also highlighted SDG 5: Gender Equality, shedding light on the additional challenges women face with breast cancer and the necessity for gender-based health solutions.

Immersive activities throughout the day reinforced the importance of community support, encouraging attendees to learn about breast cancer and how they could get involved. The focus on education and knowledge-sharing also aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, underscoring the need for an informed society that understands risk factors, treatment options, and effective management strategies.

The Pinktober Drive 2024 at IoBM demonstrated the significance of education, community engagement, and unity in addressing the challenges posed by breast cancer. By aligning its objectives with the Sustainable Development Goals, the Pinktober Drive not only raised awareness but also contributed to a future where breast cancer awareness, prevention, and treatment are accessible and effective.
