Management of Contract/Outsourced Labor



A workshop on Management of Contract Labour was organized by the Entrepreneurship and Management Excellence Center (EMEC) at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) on Monday, August 26, 2019, at the EMEC Conference Room.

Dr. Kazi Afaq Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Management & HRM Department, IoBM was the resource person. Dr. Kazi is a senior Human Resources and Industrial Relations professional with over 27 years of professional experience. He has served the industry in the HR field at C-level positions at leading multinational companies in Pakistan and abroad. He is a specialist in labour-management relations, collective bargaining, contract labour, and its legal implications. As a researcher, academician and trainer, he has been associated with IBA Karachi and CBM beside providing consultancy services to the industry.

The objective of this workshop was to understand Supreme Court judgments, law points and spirit. The participants were also informed about the new labour laws and provision of “Contractor Establishment.” Also discussed were the implications of court judgments and changes in labour laws, existing practices in the industry and legal risk threshold. Dr. Kazi shared how to mitigate risk and get the advantage of a job contract. The workshop also emphasized on how to better manage the legal risk by improved documentation and practices. It was a learning session for all as rela-life situations with practical examples were discussed revolving around how to manage contract labour.
