The Strategic Human Resource Society (SHRS) at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) hosted an awareness session in collaboration with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to commemorate the World Anti-Corruption Day.
The theme of the seminar was “Role of youth in eradication of corruption from society”. It was held at the EMEC Conference Room, Tuesday, November 26, 2019.
Haroon Rasheed, Additional DG, Compliance, NAB Karachi along with Muhammad Shahid, Deputy Director, NAB Karachi were invited as guests. From IoBM, Talib S. Karim, President; Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Rector; Shagufta Rafif Ghauri, Assistant Professor, Management & HRM Department and faculty advisor SHRS; Dr. Amber Raza, Assistant Professor, Marketing; Riaz Akbar Contractor, Proctor and Manager Sports & Students Affairs along with faculty, students and members of the SHRS attended this event.
During his speech, Mr. Rasheed shared a brief history of NAB and why it came into existence. He said that the youth must work towards the progress of this country. He defined corruption as the misuse of authority for your personal gains. Furthermore, he said that a lack of honesty in your everyday life also results in corruption. He clarified that corruption is not a word used only for politicians and influential people, anyone can be corrupt if they are dishonest. Haroon Rasheed advised students to focus on their studies, to have command over current affairs and general knowledge apart from the courses they study at the university. He called to bring transparency to all government processes. He said that corruption will reduce if concerned authorities implement simple procedures of submitting documents and completing legalities. People seek an easy way out when the processes become complicated.
Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, while talking to the audience, said that corruption is a symptom of the deeper malice of our system. It results because of the incompetencies and complexities of the bureaucratic process. Dr. Hyder appreciated the efforts of the SHRS in organizing this seminar. He thanked Haroon Rasheed for delivering a speech that was well-received by the students.
Following the interactive session at the EMEC, the guests and participants carried out a walk at the campus to raise awareness against corruption.
