The class of Public Relations held an interactive session on August 13, 2016, at Room No. 205 in the Academic Block of the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) discussing the importance of bridging the generation gap between the senior professionals and the younger generation to create wonders in the society.
The objective of the event was to unfold inspirational stories from our society where the senior citizens, veterans, and esteemed professionals from various fields in Pakistan have been working in unison with the country’s youth to create new ideas, develop marvels, and perform miracles.
The event, aptly titled, “Beyond Generation Gap” began with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by a speech by Faculty Advisor, Mr. Parvez Jamil. He pointed out the greatest example of bridging the generation gap that related to the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, that how he guided and instilled inspiration in the youth during the Pakistan Movement. He quoted several examples from IoBM and the corporate sector where young and old generations meet towards educational, career and life excellence.
The distinguished guest at the event was Mr. Junaid Saeed, an alumnus of IoBM and a visiting faculty of Finance and Accounting at the IoBM. He attended the event along with his students. While speaking at the occasion, Mr. Junaid Saeed was of the view that the two generations, both young and old, should show mutual empathy and sympathy in this regard to develop a society where sharing of thoughts can help create a better world.
Also shown at the event were special video messages by Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan; Prof. Dr. Jawaid Quamar, a prominent Astrophysicist and Ex-director of The Institute of Space & Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA); Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, a cardiologist at the Indus Hospital; Jahangir Khan, former world number 1 squash player; and Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, a Pakistani scientist specializing in organic chemistry and a former Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
The event became an interactive session when students shared with the audience personal and professional examples of how reducing the generation gap has been bringing a positive impact on our society. In this regard, a student shared the example of how Mai Dhai, a 96-year old folk singer from Tharparkar, Sindh sang a duet with Atif Aslam in Coke Studio’s Season 8. Another example shared by a student was that of Anwar Maqsood, that how the television plays and dramas he has scripted has been enthralling the younger viewers. Similar examples of personalities such as Mohammad Ali (boxer), Zia Mohiuddin, Talat Hussain, and Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan were shared by students speaking at the occasion.
